Season two · Coming
When the brokerage
is the underwriter.
Season one was about the agencies. Season two goes one level up the stack — to the brokerages that hold delegated underwriting authority from carriers and build the programs the rest of the market quotes into. They set appetite. They price the risk. They bind. They often handle the claim. And almost nobody interviews the people who run them.
What counts as a brokerage program
A brokerage program is a niche book where a brokerage underwrites the risk itself on a carrier's paper under delegated authority. Think Amwins Program Underwriters, the program desks at RT Specialty and CRC, or specialist shops like Distinguished, NSM, K2, and Shepherd. Not aggregators. Not wholesale placement. Not carrier divisions. The brokerage is the underwriter.
